There is a famous song that goes “what a difference a day makes” came to mind when I was listening to the news yesterday while walking my yellow Labrador, wish I had called him Boris, and heard that there were to be further talks to try and avoid a hard Brexit. My thought was that what difference can another week make unless the politicos get over their macho posturing.
As most of you know I voted remain, it seems so long ago, but like most people I would like to see the process of sorting how we leave finished. I was out on Saturday evening and decided to use a friend who runs a private hire business so that I could enjoy a glass or three. This chap who pre Covid had three cars on the road told me that he is lucky to get one job a week these days, it is possible that the last twenty years of his labours will not survive the year. Regardless of ones feeling on Brexit it is heart-breaking to know that so many people are having their lives destroyed.
On a more seasonal note, we had such a great response to last week’s competition, what is ESG investing, that the team and I decided that we should have two winners. Congratulations to Peter H and Michael B, your wine should be with you shortly. Peter as they deliver up to 10pm you might have to stay at the office a bit later than usual. As it is the season of goodwill, I am going to give you all a chance to get your new years eve booze. Which singer first made “What a difference a day makes” a hit.
As usual we will be closing the office from lunchtime on Christmas eve until January the 4th. Although we will be working hard to get up to date with everything before we close for Christmas in some cases we will be delayed because we are waiting for an investment house or insurance company to respond to a query or carry out an action. In these cases, we will let you know where we are before we close.
So, to the markets
I had a strange encounter on Facebook this week (sounds silly, bear with me…). A new mum put a post up on a local group asking for help. She said.
