It’s been a strange weekend. In amongst the passing of our Queen and the solemnity that comes with that (and the obvious painful parallels to my own life) I’ve attended a wedding – well, a vow renewal service. It was charming, and lovely to be surrounded by friends on a happy occasion. I even had the chance to catch up with old friends I’ve not seen for years, and we introduced our children to each other.
But of course, it’s brought up questions. Will life be different under our new King? Will events have an impact on our already struggling economy? In truth, ad hoc bank holidays do tend to slow markets for a day but overall, will there be an impact? It seems unlikely but given many of us have never seen a change in Monarchy before its hard to call. Its pleasing this week to see a lot more ‘green’ on the markets round up than last week, that’s for sure.
One question people have already been asking me a lot is what do I think the Queen’s estate will be like? Of course I really have no idea. But I would be surprised if she, in reality, owned much outright at all. My guess would be that the Royal estate would probably be handled through trusts from which there will be rules about who can benefit and when, and assets will be loaned out so no one person takes ownership of – and therefore gains an inheritance tax liability on, but I could be wrong.
Estate planning like this can save future generations inheritance tax if you set it up now. Although be warned it might not save your own estate much IHT – we look to protect your children and their children from erosion from outside influences like IHT, Divorce assessments, Bankruptcy and more.
It may sound grim to think about, but I’ve often heard of Will writing being the last loving act you can do for your families and an hour or so’s work setting up some clear documentation can save years of wrangling between family members later.

I had a strange encounter on Facebook this week (sounds silly, bear with me…). A new mum put a post up on a local group asking for help. She said.
