According to Irwin Stelzer, in today’s Sunday times, the impact of the announcement was not much greater than the recent volatility in the markets. I must say that looking at the numbers he is right in this assertion. The other interesting thing is that when you read articles and listen to what American market watchers are saying if the Trumpers chances of winning are reduced by recent events this may not be a bad thing as Biden may well bring a period of stability rather than the uncertainty that the Trumper revels in.
So then what about our own version of a great leader. Apart from the fact that he seemed to forget his own rules, I’m no longer sure that he understands what the impact of his governments continual changes to what you can and can’t do are having. If I may use my own son as an example, as I have told you before he works for a pub chain well known for their inexpensive breakfasts. We were together at the weekend, yes, we followed the rules as they were on Saturday, and he said that he really does not know whether he will have a job for much longer. Of course, he is one of many thousands in this position. Interestingly he does not blame the Chancellor but the three wise monkeys who dreamed up the 10pm chuck out. Forgive me for getting a bit irate but this will impact on all of us if acres of perfectly good businesses go pop as many of them are listed companies in which our pension etc may well be invested. So then we come to Brexit, who the hell knows, let’s see what the great and the good both sides of the tunnel manage to fall out about this week. I suppose if you are on £150,000 a year regardless of how you do and what the outcome is it makes life a bit easier.
