Last week’s competition winners were Ms F from Romsey and Mrs C from Dibden Purlieu, their wine should be arriving on Wednesday of this week. Congratulations to both of you although Mrs C tells me she will be donating the case to her husband known as honcho to them what lives in that part of the Kings forest.
When I started what I like to think of as my career I was told that my clients would be ten years younger or ten years older than me. Having failed to die before I got old, just for fun which 60’s group does that allude to, and finding myself the wrong side of *********** I am always looking for excuses to continue doing this job that I enjoy. And folks it’s my clients that keep on giving me the energy to push on. Last week I met with Mrs V who is one of the few clients who are actually older than me; she is without doubt one of the most elegant and interesting ladies I know and just spending an hour or so in her company gave me a great boost, so thank you H.
So back to work. It seems to me that the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, Covid 19 and of course the USA’s election means that making a bet on the markets for the next few weeks is problematical to say the least. By the time you read this we should know if the EU negotiators have arrived for what are probably the final negotiations before our course is set. At the risk of seeming uncaring I have to say that even though I was a Remainer, I would hate to see the talks founder on the fishing question when fishing is such a small part of our economy. As you might expect the FTSE100 did not have a great week at the prospect of leaving without a deal.
I found it fascinating that the government are already starting to blame business for not being ready for Brexit and of course business leaders are blaming the government. As some of you know I am a member of a livery company called the Carmen which was founded in 1517 to promote the Carters rights to transport goods in London. Members are in the main in the transport and related industries, I know I’m not, so you would have thought that having had more than 500 years to understand the rules regarding the transport of goods they would be completely clear on what is going to happen, they are not.
Looking towards our Trans- Atlantic cousins, although it seems impossible there is a feeling among the supposed experts that Mr Trump may even now pull off another victory. As I should not try and influence the result, I will say no more.
So, to the markets
I had a strange encounter on Facebook this week (sounds silly, bear with me…). A new mum put a post up on a local group asking for help. She said.
